South Dakota 123
South Dakota News, Pictures, and Videos
I really like using South Dakota 123 and have enjoyed seeing it go from 3 or 4 votes to 30 - 40 votes. But when I talked to Ben last time, he said there were 151 members and thousands of visitors. So why aren't we seeing stories with more than 30 or 40 votes!!!

This puzzles me, too. We have 153 members now, actually. It does seem like the same 30 or so people are voting all the time, even though we get between 14,000 - 20,000 pageviews a day.
But I recently appealed to some of you to start commenting, and that's definitely happening. We now have 788 comments, compared with 831 published stories. Looks like comments will quickly overtake stories.
The problem may be that you're not contraversial enough to get people angry. From what I've read so far, people aren't getting into ePissing matches about abortion or religion.
Those are the topics that got the old argus forum going.
I wouldn't suggest starting an abortion flamewar to get the post count up, though.
You just need to get people to start commenting, and more will follow.
Yuck. We don't need to start any of those wars. I think you're right about comments.
There are some people using the site just to promote their own sites, too, without contributing anything else. People like South Dakota War College, South Dakota Moderate, and South Dakota Magazine.
That doesn't really bother me. Don't get me wrong, I wish they would be a part of the rest of the community, but at least they add more content.
There are plenty of examples of that kind of stuff. You'd think they would at least want to get comments rolling on their own posts, but I think they only spend about 60 seconds on the site -- long enough to submit their stuff and run.
Exactly.
OK :)) I just registered and voted.
Come on all you lurkers, write your comments! It's fun and thought provoking.
It seems to be getting better, yes? Site take time to grow. I was looking through some old stories that were only getting 15 - 16 votes. Today I'm pretty sure they'd get 30 or 40.
