Satire should not need to be explained. That cover is not satire. This is satire: A Thurber cartoon of a man pouring wine for his guest saying "It's a naive, domestic burgundy without any breeding, but I think you will be amused at its presumption." Or a New Yorker cover of a very wealthy jeweled Park Avenue matron supervising her maid pouring water into the radiator of her Rolls from a silver pitcher while her butler stands ready with more water in an elaborate silver urn on an equally elaborate silver tray. I remember when the New Yorker arrived in a plain brown wrapper. That would have concealed this disgrace of a cover. I won't cancel my subscription though, because I know the New Yorker is capable of better than that--much better.
I took it as good, witty satire. People on all sides are disagreeing about this.
That cover needs no explanation - it's clearly a whack at the Obama-haters who promote those myths.
Lighten up Francis . . . er, Psycho.
